Durham University is grateful to Santander Universities for providing opportunities for the University's researchers, entrepreneurs and future students. Since joining the network in 2009, the Santander's gifts have provided undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships and awards as well as support for entrepreneurial activities and research.
Santander Universities began in Spain in 1997 with the aim to support higher education as a means to contribute to the development and prosperity of society. Today it is a global network, with over 1,100 universities in 20 countries who have agreements with the division. Santander Universities UK began to grow in 2007, joining together with universities in Spain, Portugal, Latin America, China and the United States, which together constitute ‘Santander Universities'.
The Durham- Santander agreement provides:
- Funding for scholarships to facilitate student and staff mobility between Durham and universities overseas
- Funding for scholarships for postgraduate students from Latin-American countries, Spain and Portugal to study at the University
- Support for individual awards for research excellence.
