Science in Practice

This is a new field for me, and very much one that has spun out of work conducted under The Waste of the World programme.

As part of that work I conducted a small scale ethnography of a university science laboratory where the work focuses on the immobilisation of radioactive wastes. In 2010 I worked on an EPSRC-funded project which brought together chemists, social scientists and a fashion designer. Currently (late 2011), again through EPSRC funding, I am spending time with a group of polymer chemists and one of their projects. At the same time, I have recently begun working with a group of physicists on a project which seeks to adopt participatory methodologies in relation to photovoltaic devices, in the UK and in Bangladesh. This project runs to 2014.
