The Department welcomes applications for the 2020 round of the Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship scheme. As this scheme is highly competitive, we ask that:

  • All potential candidates provide an outline proposal (2 pages) and CV by January 7th - please send to
  • Initial feedback will be provided by January 10th from the DoR/DDR
  • Full proposals using the Leverhulme proforma are requested by January 22nd
  • Proposals will be reviewed and ranked and the top applications submitted to the Faculty process for peer review and feedback on January 29th
  • The Faculty will select proposals to take forward for submission and provide feedback for candidates to develop their proposals for submission by the deadline of 27th February, 2020

Please note that as the Department provides 50% of the financial support for Fellowships, successful candidates will be expected to undertake a range of teaching roles during their Fellowship. These may include, but are not limited to, supporting the provision of fieldwork modules by participating in week-long residential trips in the UK and overseas, supporting the delivery of core Level 1 and Level 2 modules concerned with methodological skills development, supervising tutorials and dissertation advisory groups, and during the 2nd and 3rd years of their Fellowship may provide a small number of lectures to modules across the degree programme where there is scope to do so and the teaching is in line with the research interests of the Fellow.
