Professor in Human Geography - Ref: 3670

The Department of Geography seeks to appoint a Professor of Human Geography from 1st September 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter. We invite applications from those conducting world leading and agenda setting work in geography and cognate disciplines. We particularly welcome applicants whose work will build on one or a number of key interests in the department, including:
Political spaces and orderings; Reformulating ‘everyday’, embodied and material geographies; Reimagining the urban condition; Exposing the economy to social and cultural explanation; Well-being and human flourishing; Risk and resilience.
The successful applicant will be a dynamic researcher and teacher undertaking work of a world class standard in terms of originality, significance and impact which will contribute to the development and consolidation of research agendas and shape public policy or debate. The successful applicant will be able to provide academic and intellectual leadership, including support and mentoring of early career researchers, in the largest UK geography department. The Department has been ranked equal top in the last four Research Assessment Exercises, and in RAE2008 produced the highest volume of world leading (4*), internationally excellent (3*) and overall international quality research of any geography department in the country. The Department was ranked 3rd in the Times Newspaper Good University Guide in both 2008 and 2009.
Salary: by negotiation within the Professorial range
