Dr Jeff Warburton awarded University Enhancing the Student Learning Experience grants
(25 March 2009)
Each year, the University makes a number of grants to staff to support innovations which will enhance the learning experience of students. The grant will pay for 50 Garmin Etrex H high-sensitivity 12 parallel channel GPS receivers and 10 Garmin Oregon 300 mapping-quality GPS receivers with OS map uploads. These will be used to support curriculum innovation, including an introduction to GPS and demonstration of its capabilities, field collection of sample data, data-handling and analysis, and the display of data and its use in mapping applications.
Learning opportunities will be incorporated into the development of modules at Levels 1 and 3 which will assist the Department to maintain its curriculum at the cutting edge of the subject and enhance both the disciplinary and generic knowledge and skills of students.
