Applications are invited for the post of Secretary (Grade 4, full time and permanent) to provide a comprehensive secretarial service in the Learning and Teaching Office in the Department of Geography at Durham, one of Europe’s leading Geography Departments, with 58 academic staff, 70 postgraduate students and 550 undergraduate students. The Department was one of a very small number to be awarded both the status of Excellent for the quality of its teaching and the highest 6* grading in national assessments of University research.

The post holder who will be an integral part of the Learning and Teaching secretarial team will report to the Learning and Teaching Administrator. According to the specific and fluctuating demands of the Department a degree of flexibility in working practices may sometimes be required to facilitate the smooth running of the Learning and Teaching Office. Other duties may be assigned by the Head of Department within the skills and competence of the post holder. The post is available from 1st May 2008.
The post holder will be encouraged to undertake training which will enable him/her to further develop their personal skills and to take on increasing responsibility.

Salary: From £15,743
