NASA - space and earth science: earth surface and interior

(11 March 2005)

The Nasa Science Mission Directorate invites applications for its earth surface and interior program under the research opportunities in space and earth science announcement. The ESI focus can be divided into three thematic areas:

•land surface change and associated natural hazards;

•space geodesy;

•earth's planetary interior, its structure and dynamics.

The program is seeking to improve the performance of the global geodetic observing and analysis capability through the design of new observing strategies, technologies, and analysis capabilities.

Of critical importance in the broad range of ESI and related climate change studies is the definition of a stable and accurate terrestrial reference frame and the interpretation of associated changes in the earth's shape, gravity field, and angular momentum.

Approximately $2 million will be available to support 15 new awards for up to three years. NNH05ZDA001N-ESI.

Deadline: notice of intent May 27; proposal due July 27, 2005
