Flash Flooding University Challenge Final

(25 March 2014)

The University Challenge was established in October 2012 by the Environment Agency and Chartered Institute of Water Engineers and Management (CIWEM) to support and develop university-led projects across the North of England. This year's University Challenge was focussed on flash flooding and was a competition open to students and post-doctoral researchers from universities across the north of England. Entrants were asked to develop ideas that could minimize the impact of flash flooding. Finalists presented their ideas to representatives of the Environment Agency, CIWEM, and other members of the industry. This gave them an opportunity to attract interest, support and potentially provide funding for their ideas. The students also gained valuable experience in transferring academic knowledge to practical problems and communicating their ideas in a formal professional environment.
