Polar Medal awarded to Professor Mike Bentley

(19 December 2011)

Mike Bentley in the Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica.

Professor Bentley received the award in recognition of his outstanding work on Antarctic glaciers and ice sheets in relation to global climate change. The award, which was instituted almost 100 years ago in 1904 for members of Captain Scott’s first expedition to the Antarctic, is given for extreme human endeavour against the hazards and rigours set by climatic conditions to life and movement in the Polar regions and more recently the acquisition of knowledge on the Polar Regions.
