The Geography Department, top-ranked in the RAE2008, seeks to appoint two posts in Physical Geography with research expertise in catchment, river and hillslope science (a Chair and a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Reader).
Applications are invited from candidates that complement or extend our existing expertise rather than duplicate it. The successful candidates will demonstrate a track record of, or potential for, internationally excellent publications and external funding. The successful candidates will show a commitment to delivering excellent teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition to their research, the successful candidates will perform departmental administrative tasks commensurate with their grade and contribute to our physical geography teaching programme.
Chair in Catchment, River and Hillslope Science
The successful applicant will provide international leadership within Physical Geography and will be broadly affiliated with the Catchment, River, and Hillslope Science (CRHS) research group. An interest in hazard and risk and/or the technical skills to do cutting-edge science through expertise and innovation in key methodologies could be an advantage. The successful applicant will have research interests that complement and extend current research in one or more of the following areas:
i. Catchment and river studies, including hydrological processes, flood risk, diffuse pollution and water quality, fluvial geomorphology, innovative applications of remote sensing, and the dynamics of sediment routing systems; and
ii. Hillslope studies, including innovative field and laboratory studies of landslide and debris flow processes, landslide risk, and the role of hillslopes and landslides in large-scale landscape evolution and biogeochemical cycling.
Salary: By negotiation within the Professorial range.
