Teaching Fellow in Physical Geography - Ref: 009253

The Geography Department seeks to appoint an exceptional scholar as a Teaching Fellow with teaching interests in the field of palaeoclimate / palaeoceanography, to include expertise in oceanography, marine ecology, and biological/geochemical proxies, for a period of up to 10 months ending on or before 31st October 2018.

The post-holder will provide excellent teaching in the Department of Geography, particularly (but not restricted to) the following:

• Provide high quality teaching and associated examining across a range of modules and levels in the department;

• Support the delivery of teaching in the physical geography degree programme by contributing to existing modules; including): Level 2 Scientific Research in Physical Geography; Level 2 Geochemistry of the Environment; L2 Global Environmental Change; L3 Oceans Past and Present and lead small group teaching acting as academic advisor (Levels 1 and 2), research methods tutor (Level 2) and dissertation supervisor (Level 3).

• Contribute to the administration of the teaching programme in Department.

• The assessment and examination of student work.

• Supervise undergraduate students.

• Development of scholarship in the field.

• In addition to the Board of Studies, the post holder will have membership of some departmental committees and professional body membership.

The post of Teaching Fellow will involve a significant teaching load, including during the summer period, and there will be related scholarship and the opportunity for administrative duties which relate to education and pedagogy. This post is to cover for a colleague who is on maternity leave. This post is therefore for a fixed term of 10 months or until October 2018 and it is not anticipated that the post will be extended beyond this fixed term.
