Post Doctoral Research Associate - Post: 005602
(10 April 2017)
The Department of Geography at Durham University seeks to appoint a full-time Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) in Quantitative Geomorphology. The post is fixed term for 30 months from 1st May 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The position is part of a major new Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) funded project “Carbon export by erosion of the biosphere: The role of earthquake-triggered landslides”. The primary objectives of the project are to: 1) Calculate carbon mobilisation by earthquake-triggered landslides around the world; 2) Quantify the export of organic carbon from mountain catchments following earthquakes; and 3) Determine how earthquakes contribute to carbon export from the biosphere in mountain belts over millennia. These objectives will be met using a combination of empirical datasets on landsliding, sediment and organic carbon transfers from mountain belts, and numerical modelling of hillslope and river channel processes. Fieldwork associated with the project will take place in the western Southern Alps of New Zealand.
