Biography

I am currently a first year doctoral student under the supervision of Dr Ulrika Maude, having received my BA and MA in English Studies from Durham University.

My research examines the work of Samuel Beckett through the lens of scientific knowledge and praxis. In particular, I examine Beckett's adherence to a literary equivalent of the scientific method, a strategy based upon experimentation and observation, as a guiding principle in the development of his aesthetic strategies. Simultaneously, I aim to elucidate how Beckett's incorporation of scientific ideas into his work on both a thematic and a structural level impacts upon and complements this aesthetic development.

More generally, my areas of interest include Beckett Studies as a whole, Modernist and postmodernist writing, philosophical and scientific approaches to literature, and literature and music.
