Jonathan Jones read law at St Chad’s College, Durham before being called to the Bar by the Middle Temple, where he is now a Bencher. He held a number of legal posts in government, working on many aspects of public and constitutional law, legislation, public inquiries, EU, international and human rights law. From 2013-2020 he was Treasury Solicitor, HM Procurator General and Permanent Secretary of the Government Legal Department. He was made an honorary QC in 2019 and appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in 2020.
