Accreditation of Prior Learning
The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) is an academic process which recognises and values applicants’ previous work experience or study. APL is an umbrella term for two types of learning: learning gained though previous academic study, which can lead to Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) and APEL which is the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning, usually learning gained outside of the classroom and through practical experience.
TEIs are responsible for all direct communications with individuals who wish to claim APL. Please see the detailed guidance below for essential information to help TEIs consider APL claims for students entering the Common Awards Programmes. TEIs may also find the Quick Guide for Applicants and Quick Guide for TEI Staff below useful, as well as the sample application form.
