St Mary’s 125th Anniversary Bursaries

Through the continued generosity of our alumni, 125 Bursarieswe are delighted to be able to offer up to twenty-five 125th Anniversary bursaries, each worth £1000 to undergraduate students who will be living in and entering the College in the 2024-25 academic year.

The award of £1000 will be used to off-set £1000 of catering charges during the first year of living at St Marys College and this will be deducted from catering charges during the first year of study.

By way of example only, catering costs are currently £2842 for 1 academic year. Those who successfully obtain a bursary will be charged £1842 for catering costs. Please note, catering costs are subject to change and have yet to be finalised for academic year 2024/25.

To be considered, applicants must be offer-holders who name St Mary’s as their first choice of college and if successful, will be allocated to St Mary’s when accepted by Durham University. 

Recipients will be able to demonstrate ‘financial need’ – defined as a household income below £35,000. Additional consideration will be given to applicants from neighbourhoods with low participation in higher education and from applicants who are a first-generation scholar.

The information you provide will be treated as confidential and will only be viewed by the College decision panel to determine your eligibility.

Applications will be treated confidentially and in accordance with current Data Protection legislation. The information provided by you for this application will be used to process and administer your application.

Successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of financial need through presentation of their student finance company’s household income assessment before receipt of the scholarship payment.

Stage 1: submit an academic application to Durham University via UCAS.

Stage 2: applicants must specify St Mary’s College as their first choice college when asked for their college preferences by Durham University.

Please include in your form a personal statement of not more than 1,000 words describing how your personal circumstances make you eligible for this award, how the bursary would help you to study at Durham University and why you want to study at Durham University and St Mary’s College.

Successful applicants will also be required to share with the College a copy of their student finance entitlement before receipt of the scholarship.

SELECTION PROCESS

All eligible applications for the St Mary’s 125th Anniversary Bursaries will be considered on the basis of their personal statement and academic status by two members of College staff at St Mary’s College. The financial and personal information you provide will be treated with strict confidentiality by members of the selection panel.
