The Department of Archaeology offers full-time students the opportunity to study abroad in their third year. The following programmes include a required placement undertaken during the third year of study (between Levels 2 and 4):
- BA Archaeology (with year abroad)
- BSc Archaeology (with year abroad)
- BA Archaeology and Ancient Civilisations (with year abroad).
The university is chosen in consultation with the Department of Archaeology's International Coordinator from those available through Durham University's Erasmus links, its Overseas Exchange Programme or the Department's own partnership agreements.
A broader understanding of archaeology as practised in another country.
Knowledge of a foreign culture and the ability to live and work within a foreign culture.
Depending on the destination, students may also develop language skills.
