A team of experts from Archaeological Services Durham University and the Department of Archaeology worked together to excavate and analyse the skeletons. Their findings are summarised in a series of research papers which have been externally peer reviewed.
Archaeology is so often thought of as taking place in remote places, at very ancient sites far from home. This project shows what archaeological science, in combination with historical evidence, can reveal about the lives of ordinary people. Through our research here in the Archaeology Department at Durham University we hope that this small band of Scottish soldiers who lived in such troubled times during the civil wars have been reinstated in the history of Durham City and 17th Century Britain.Professor Chris Gerrard
