New Immortalities

The new immortalities project is an ongoing discussion among a network of scholars interested in the post-mortem use of the human body in medicine, research and education: Our aim is to stimulate interdisciplinary reflection on death, donation and the complex imaginaries that are now forming around the secondary use of organs, tissues and whole bodies in the 21st century. The conjunction of these interests and imaginaries is complex and challenging. It brings within a single frame questions of biomedical need and the relief of suffering on the one hand and ideas about the body, death and what happens beyond on the other.
