The Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA) is an independent body established by law to investigate student complaints. If the University is unable to resolve your complaint or appeal and you are a current or very recent student of the University, you might be able to appeal to the OIA but you must contact them within 12 months of completing the University's internal procedures.
In order to open a case with the OIA, you must have a Completions of Procedure Letter to demonstrate that you have completed the University’s appeal processes. This will be issued via email automatically at the conclusion of a Senate Appeal, however if only the Faculty Appeal process was completed (where there were no grounds for an appeal to Senate), you will need to ask the Appeals Team to issue this by emailing student.appeals@durham.ac.uk.
Information on the OIA’s processes, including what is covered by the OIA scheme, and details of how to make the complaint can be found on the OIA website - Students - OIAHE
