Professor Charlotte Clarke, Executive Dean (Social Sciences and Health)

Responsibilities

The Executive Dean is responsible for the strategic development and financial performance of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Health. A key academic leader, supporting and enhancing research and teaching performance within the Faculty and an important ambassadorial role for the Faculty and the University. 

Professional background and expertise

Charlotte came to Durham from the University of Edinburgh where she most recently served Dean International for the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and formerly as Head of the School of Health in Social Science.

She has been a (sub-)panel member for RAE2008, REF2014 and REF2021.

Through her research, Charlotte has worked to address health inequalities and stigma and has influenced international health and social care policy and practice in relation to dementia.

Education and qualifications

Charlotte graduated in Nursing Studies from Glasgow College of Technology and holds an MSc in Health and Social Research, a PGCE, a PhD in Dementia and Higher Doctorate in Social Science from Northumbria University.
