New Postgraduates 2020
Welcome from the Principal
Congratulations on obtaining a place at Durham University and at Trevelyan College. This is an achievement of which you should be extremely proud.
I am looking forward to welcoming you to Trevelyan in September. You will have plenty of opportunities to get to know me and my staff team when you arrive – in the meantime, you can take a look at our College staff pages to find out more about us. Your first days at University will be very exciting but they will also have their challenges, so please do come and speak to one of us if you have any questions or worries, or if you would just like to chat.
Please make sure you read our induction webpages carefully and fill in all the necessary paperwork in good time. This will ensure that your arrival is as smooth and problem-free as possible. If you have any questions please do contact us on email@example.com or 0191 334 7057.
Finally, I just want to say a few words about the wonderful community that you are joining. Trevelyan is an exceptional community that values diversity, curiosity, and consideration. It is a supportive and inclusive environment in which you will be encouraged to be the very best you can be – through trying new things, meeting new people, and discovering new talents. I would like to encourage you to fully embrace the many opportunities that lie ahead of you – to step out of your comfort zone and truly explore without limits.
Professor Adekunle Adeyeye
Principal of Trevelyan College
Welcome from the MCR President
Hello, my name is Rory and I am the MCR President. I would like to extend a warm welcome to you all and congratulate you on joining one of the best postgraduate communities in Durham. Whether you were an undergraduate here who is returning to continue their education, or joining us from elsewhere to enjoy the academic brilliance of Durham, we will ensure you experience a proper Trevs welcome and get the most out of college.
I hope that we can help you to create wonderful memories and encourage academic excellence within the broad and supportive community that exists within the MCR. There will be many opportunities to socialise as well as demonstrate your research interests and hear what others are working on. As President, it’s my job to make sure everyone is comfortable, settled in, and happy during your time in Trevs, as well as representing your views to the wider College and University community.
Whilst Postgraduate Freshers week (23rd-30th September) will be different this year, we will still try to make you feel at home, get a taste of what Durham can offer and help you to meet each other. The MCR Ambassadors and I look forward to meeting you all and providing the best student experience possible!
MCR President, Trevelyan College
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We are busy modifying our services, facilities, and programmes to ensure that you can have a great year with us, complete with all of the signature Trevelyan experiences, while remaining safe. Our MCR Ambassadors are hard at work creating an Induction Week schedule that will welcome you to Durham in (socially distanced) style. This will not be a normal year at Trevelyan, but it will be a great year nonetheless.
Please make sure you take a look at Durham University’s Covid information pages to get an idea of what to expect on campus, from classrooms to co-curriculars.
We are very proud of all of our students for the mature, considerate, and community-minded attitudes that they have demonstrated throughout the pandemic. We would like to ask all of our incoming students to take a similar approach. All students will be provided with a PPE pack including fabric masks. We ask that you wear these masks in accordance with the government guidelines. There will also be College-specific regulations to help us to keep everyone safe while still allowing you to have as normal an experience as possible. These regulations will be communicated to you over the summer, so please keep an eye on your emails. It is very important that you cooperate with these regulations in order to keep every member of our wonderful community safe – our College community, our University community, and our local community.
We will be handling our arrivals process differently this year to ensure that we keep our staff and students safe and socially distanced where necessary.
Please read our 2020 Postgraduate Arrivals page for up-to-date information about the arrivals process for home and international students, including quarantine regulations.
If you are living in College there are several things that you will need to do before arrival. The most important of these is to sign your licence agreement as soon as possible. If you do not sign your licence agreement by the deadline (two weeks after you receive it) your room will be reallocated, so please make sure you check your emails regularly. Take a look at our College Residents Forms section to find out if we need any more information from you.
We will be uploading our Postgraduate Induction Checklist 2020 shortly.
Please read it carefully for full details of what we need you to do before you arrive, and any information we need from you.
