Trevelyan College

Parker Symposium 2017

Jonathan Parker: Familiarity and Mystery

Friday 28th April 2017

Jonathan Parker is an English painter with strong North-East connections, being a member of the Trevelyan family and having a long association with Wallington House, Northumbria, and, more recently, with Trevelyan College, Durham University. Jonathan specialises in portraiture, and has undertaken several commissions for the College including the portraits of the four still-living Principals. His recent work looks retrospectively and enigmatically at the history of the Trevelyan family’s inhabiting of Wallington Hall.

Jonathan’s importance as a contemporary painter is increasingly recognised, and this Symposium, with Jonathan himself among the distinguished contributors, will engage with his work and its development, its antecedents (including Spanish art in County Durham), and its influences from family, landscape and mystery.
