Trevelyan College

Appeals for Support

All alumni donations are handled by the Trevelyan College Trust, which exists for the enhancement and benefit of college. You can read more about the Trust and it's primary aims for the enhancement of college here.

Donations can be made by contacting the Trust via email, or by telephoning the Alumni Office on 0191 33 47016. Alternatively, gifts can be made securely online at www.dunelm.org.uk/trevelyan by selecting Trevelyan College Annual Fund from the "Designation" drop-down menu. If there is a specific area of college which you would like your gift to go to, select Other from the menu and then specify where in college you would like your donation to be directed to. This can be to any part of college, including student societies.

There are a number of other projects that Trevelyan alumni can support:

Career Owls
One important way that alumni can support current students is by offering advice and information about the employment market. Trevelyan Career Owls allows you to do this in a measured and secure way through our online database. You can register your details and current students will contact you for advice about working in your specific employment area. Find out more by using this link.

The G.M. Trevelyan Prize for Research
Our Middle Common Room has established a G.M. Trevelyan Prize for Research. The prize is open to both full and associate MCR members and awarded on the basis of potential shown by applicants to take into account the relatively limited amount of research experience that many will have.

Applicants submit a research report or proposal which is assessed within three categories: 4th year Undergraduate Masters/Taught Postgraduates, Research Postgraduates/1st year PhDs and 2nd/3rd year PhDs. Up to 4 candidates are short listed from these categories. They present their research at the MCR/SCR research event in the Easter Term, after which the judging panel select a winner. A prize of £50 and a commemorative plaque are presented at the last MCR Formal of term.

The Prize winner will also summarise their work in our Alumni Magazine, Hippocampus.

The Tenner for Trevelyan MCR Appeal is supporting this prize. If you would like to donate, you can download and print off a donation form here. Alternatively you can choose 'Tenner for Trevelyan MCR' from the drop down menu on our online donation page.

Trevelyan Music Appeal
This appeal focusses on our recent ambition to promote music and the performing arts. Our recent student survey showed almost half (40%) of Trevs students are involved in music, theatre and the performing arts, this despite an acute shortage of facilities and equipment. The Music Appeal aims to provide better equipment, performance and rehearsal space for students.

If you would like to donate specifically to the Music Appeal, please contact the Alumni Office either at trevs.trust@durham.ac.uk or on 0191 33 47016. Alternatively, you can donate online here by selecting Trevelyan Music from the "Designation" field.

So far donations have been used to by sheet music, for a newly formed Sax ensemble, two badly needed Fender Footman amps and a Marshall bass amp guitar, 12 duet lamp stands which illuminate the entire two pages of music, a Conductor's Stand, portable audio recorder and a practice drum kit.

Contributing to the University’s Annual Giving Telephone Campaign
Every year, between October and May, current students working with Durham University’s Alumni Relations Office (DARO) make a personal telephone contact with alumni from their College, Department or sports club. These calls raise awareness about the annual giving programme, but also give alumni a chance to ask questions about Durham, and students can ask alumni their opinions about the university.

Trevelyan has benefitted enormously from monies donated to the College through these schemes. Read about some of the improvements funded by alumni in recent years here.
