Technician Commitment
Durham University is proud to be a signatory of the Technician Commitment.
The Technician Commitment is a sector-wide, collaborative initiative led by the Science Council and supported by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation’s Technicians Make It Happen campaign.
The Commitment aims to ensure visibility, recognition, career development, and sustainability for technical staff working in higher education and research, across all disciplines.
In line with this, we aim to enhance skills and career development for technical staff, recognising their integral and invaluable role in the continued successful delivery of high-quality teaching and research on the global stage.

DU Technicians Coffee and Cake Networking Event,
Coffee and Cake served to DU technicians on the top floor of Calman 4th April from 12 – 2pm. We hope to see you there.
This will be similar to what we planned just before Christmas. A no pressure opportunity to get together, meet techs from other departments and have a chat. The date is set, the venue confirmed, we just need to order the cakes and coffee. We’d love these to be termly events, possibly organised around seasonal food products and very broad technical themes (think things like “measurement” or “construction”) so that we have to opportunity to development meaningful interdepartmental links with each other. Of course events need participants, so do try and come along if you’re able.
Contact gary.parker@durham.ac.uk for more information about this event.
