Durham University Fund for Students Travelling Abroad
The Covid-19 (coronavirus) infection has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organisation.
The health and wellbeing of our students and colleagues is our top priority and we are working hard across the University community to prepare for the possible spread of the virus, provide up to date information and advice and offer support as the situation develops.
Please see: https://www.dur.ac.uk/coronavirus/ for full details.
Given this unprecedented situation and international travel restrictions it is unlikely that the Student Travel Abroad Fund will open for applications this year. We will of course monitor the situation and provide updated information as and when we are able to.
The funds are provided to support students wishing to travel abroad to undertake activities which sit outside their academic course and current area of study, for example, working for a charitable organisation, taking part in activities which enhance personal development and/or provide opportunities to gain personal experience. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate an ability to organise their own travel.

A significant amount of the funding available to students to support their extra-curricular interests and personal development has been made possible from the generous donations of the University's Alumni. To ensure that this support continues in the future current students are needed to work on the Annual Giving Programme telephone fundraising campaign. If you would be interested in giving your time to help future students and in return gain some valuable experience as well as financial incentives, please contact the Development and Alumni Relations Office. (www.dunelm.org.uk).
I wouldn't have been able to go to Uganda and have this amazing experience if it hadn't been for the Students Travelling Abroad Fund. Volunteering in Uganda was the best thing I have ever done and I would highly recommend anyone who has thought about volunteering, at home or abroad, to do it!Rebecca Lowe, BA History
