Living Out

We encourage all students to be fully engaged in all the College has to offer, whether they live in or out of College. We recognise that in our diverse community, our students have a number of different commitments outside of their studies and we strive to cater for all. We hope that you make the most of your time at Stephenson and take all opportunities offered to you.

To ensure that we offer stimulating and varied activities, we work alongside our students and support them in organising events which they want to see in College.

The Junior Common Room (JCR) have an elected Livers’ Out Officer who represents the views of those who do not live in College accommodation and ensures that students living out remain an integral part of the College community. The Livers’ Out Officer is supported by a committee, which you are invited to join and contribute to as a valued member of the JCR.

For more information about being a Living out student at Stephenson or to sign up to the Livers’ Out Committee, please contact the Livers’ Out Officer, Rebecca Tumelty via r.l.tumelty@durham.ac.uk

The Café-Bar opens on a lunch time and evening, serving hot and cold drinks as well as well as snacks such as paninis and pizza. Stephenson Central also has a study room with PCs and a number of academic textbooks.

The Heighington Room:

The Heighington Room is a shared space in College where our students who live out can come together during the day for coffee, lunch or just a get together with friends. The room offers a kitchen area with use of a kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge. Crockery is also provided in the room.
