Current grants

2021-2024. What's in a house? Exploring the kinship structure of the world's first houses. Leverhulme Research Project Ref. 84009. 

The project team comprises Dr. Eva Fernández-Domínguez (Project PI, Durham), Dr. Jessica Pearson (Co-I, Univ Liverpool), Dr. Jo-Hannah Plug (PDRA Univ Liverpool) and Dr. Kelly Blevins (PDRA Durham). In close collaboration with archaeologists from Syria, Jordan, Spain, France, the Netherlands and the United States, the team led by Dr. Eva Fernandez-Dominguez aims to explore the role of biological kinship in the organization of PPNA through to PN communities in the Northern and Southern Levant using a combination of ancient DNA and stable isotopes of mobility (Strontium and Oxygen).

2022-2026. A Regional Outlook on Ancient Migration (ROAM). 

This project, funded by the Special Research Grant of the University of Ghent and led by Prof. Isabelle De Groote, aims to generate regional-scale, multi- and inter-disciplinary insights into the mobility and lifeways of the first modern humans to settle permanently in southern Belgium. 

The project adopts a cross-disciplinary approach combining data from bioarchaeology (anthropology), archaeology, zooarchaeology, stable isotope analyses, proteomics, radiocarbon dating and ancient DNA. The ancient DNA part of the project is led by Dr. Eva Fernandez-Dominguez (Durham) and is being developed by Dr. Maïté Rivollat (Ghent/Durham).
