As a gendarmerie officer with the rank of first lieutenant, I am in the first year of my PhD which is funded by the Turkish Ministry of Interior. Also, I am a member of the Centre for Research into Violence and Abuse (CRIVA) which provides me an excellent opportunity to discuss issues related to violence against women with leading academicians and researchers. I have previously undertaken a BSc at Turkish Military Academy and an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Durham University. For my doctoral research project, I am investigating the role of Domestic Violence Responses in reducing the abusive behavior in rural areas. My field experience in Domestic Violence Interventions and witnessing the deleterious impact of this violence on women prompted me to conduct research in this area with a feminist approach. My research is related to the fields of criminology, sociology and social policy and I hope that this project can help contribute to the development of Domestic Violence Responses and the prevention of Domestic Violence.
