Global Policy North Network
Global Policy North is a consortium of scholars from various disciplines and universities, working on a range of global governance and global policy issues. The purpose of GP North is to create a forum for collaborative and innovative research, publishing, teaching and outreach.
Building a Northern Network of Expertise
By bringing together experts from Northern Universities, GP North will deliver research collaboration and cutting-edge analysis on pressing global collective action problems. To do this, GP North provides a networked platform for Northern academics and practitioners to extend the scope and scale of their research agendas through coordination and collaboration.
With offices at Durham University, GP North will shape new research directions spanning a number of key disciplines - public and private policy making, global politics, international relations, international political economy, and international law. Our joined-up approach enables a better understanding of policy options and policy innovations in a rapidly changing global context. We expect this will translate into meaningful impact in academic and policy terms.

Global Policy Next Generation
One of the first Global Policy North initiatives was the creation of Global Policy Next Generation, a fifth annual edition of Global Policy Journal. Edited by postgraduate students based in the Global Policy North collaborating universities, the issue is held to the same rigorous academic standards as the regular Journal. The aim is to seek out the next generation of ground-breaking research in global policymaking from early career researchers.
Thesis Prize
This annual award was created in 2018 in memory of Mrs Radhabai Nanwani.
The Prize will be awarded annually to an outstanding thesis with a focus on:
- public and private policymaking,
- global health,
- global public goods,
- international relations,
- international political economy,
- international law.
The award is for £300 and the recipient will also receive a framed certificate. In addition, the winner will have the opportunity to be mentored by a member of the Global Policy North Steering Group on how to prepare his/her research for publication in Global Policy.
