Magnetometry

Durham University is equipped with a Quantum Design Magnetic Property Measurement System 3 (MPMS3). This instrument enables highly sensitive magnetic measurements under variable conditions.

The instrument is based on detection via a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) and a 7 T superconducting magnet, with a sample temperature range of 2 K to 400 K. The system uses an Evercool refrigeration system, which liquefies helium, minimising the usage of this resource.
