Durham is one of the most exciting places in the world to study Classical Reception as a postgraduate or postdoctoral fellow. We have a large and supportive community of MA and PhD students working on projects within Classical Reception - and world-leading experts across a number of departments, from Classics and Ancient History to English Studies to Archaeology, who supervise topics in the field.
At MA level, there is a dedicated module in Classical Reception, 'The Classical Tradition', offered by the Department of Classics and Ancient History. Many MA students have designed individual research projects in the field - taking them to archives and collections across the world.
There are regular international conferences, workshops and events in Classical Reception, bringing leading scholars to Durham. Our Past Events page lets you take a look at some of these. Postgraduates have the opportunity to participate in many such events - and several have organized extremely successful conferences themselves.
As a centre of world-class research, Durham has a strong commitment to postgraduate provision and welcomes applications for MA and PhD work in the field. The University has an unusually wide range of expertise in the field and, through the Centre, an unusually wide scope for cross-disciplinary work.
