Prof. Anoush Ehteshami was appointed as the first Sheikh Nasser al-Mohammad al-Sabah Chair in October 2011.

Appointments are for five years. The role of the chair is to:

drive the research agenda of the programme
forge extensive links with Kuwait and other member countries of the Gulf Co-operation Council
mentor postgraduate and doctoral students in the area of international and regional security
organise international conferences and symposia
develop a publication series
develop the programme as a centre of excellence
