Research and Innovation Services

The Research Commercialisation team's mission is to disseminate research outcomes via the commercialisation of ideas and new technologies. Our technology transfer specialists work closely with individuals and groups across all three faculties and we have a proven track record in the commercial exploitation of new products, processes and services. We provide a flexible package of support for IP development through which we can progress opportunities for commercialisation and economic development, including:

  • Assisting colleagues with the development of an IP strategy and commercialisation plan
  • Supporting funding applications for translation of research into practice such as commercialisation and follow on funding
  • Creation of spin-out companies
  • Licensing and sale of IP

Creation of spin-out companies is the conventional route for taking innovative new technologies to the marketplace. We support early stage ventures by working with academic researchers to develop a business plan to get the business ready to raise the investment needed to take the venture forward. We are also very keen to support non-conventional opportunities in non-technical fields through creation of not-for-profit ventures and social enterprises.
