+Can I take a Level 1/2/3 module in Year 4?

No. The University regulations state that all modules taken by a Level 4 student must be Level 4 modules. This is essentially due to the need to include a sufficient amount of masters-level work in a masters-level qualification. This rule applies to students on all degree programmes, including Natural Sciences as well as Single Honours programmes. Level 4 modules have a “4” as the first numerical digit of the module code.

Physics students have opportunities to take credit-bearing modern language (CFLS) modules in years 1 and 3. These modules are not available to Level 4 students. Level 4 students who wish to improve their foreign language skills may wish to enrol on the non-credit-bearing “Languages for All” programme, which is open to all students (and indeed to members of the public):

Level 4 students cannot take postgraduate modules.
