Interpreting at the Highest Level

28th November 2019, 15:00 to 17:30, ER153 (Lecture); ER141 (Ceremony), Dr Kevin Lin OBE

Please join us in celebrating the first Professor in Practice appointed by MLAC. The celebration event includes an inaugural lecture (3-5pm, ER153) and appointment ceremony (5-5:30pm, ER 141) on Thursday, 28 Nov 2019

Abstract: The talk focuses on one specific genre of Consecutive Interpreting – the one used in inter-government relations. Part of this genre is sometimes referred to as Diplomatic Interpreting. The talk begins with a description of the key features of this genre. It will be followed by an investigation of the linguistic as well as translation issues the interpreter needs to handle. The talk will challenge widely held beliefs in interpreting and translation studies with evidence built up over many years.
