Socialism, capitalism and the transition away from fossil fuels

16th January 2020, 17:00 to 19:00, Room 149, Elvet Riverside 1, Simon Pirani

The Centre for Culture and Ecology is launching a new series entitled "Capitalism, Nature and Climate Change."

This first event will be a talk by Simon Pirani, author of Burning up: A global history of fossil fuel consumption, on "Socialism, capitalism and the transition away from fossil fuels".

The talk will be open to the public and will be followed by a discussion. Discussants include Neve Ovenden (Student activist), Hannah Walter (local parish councillor) and Professor Gavin Bridge, co-author of Oil (Cambridge 2013). Following the talk, we were anticipating another hour (approx) of conversation between Simon and the discussants and Q&A from the audience.
