Association of Hispanists Conference at Durham

Chemistry Department, Durham University

The Association of Hispanists of Great Britain and Ireland is holding its 2019 conference at Durham University. Over 100 Hispanists will talk about their research on Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, Galician and Latin American culture, history and language. Keynote lectures will be given by:

  • Professor Sarah Wilson (Courtauld Institute of Art), speaking about the Spanish painter Eduardo Arroyo (sponsored by the Zurbarán Centre)
  • Jorge de Juan (Artistic Director of the Spanish Theatre Company), speaking about establishing a Spanish-language theatre in London (sponsored by the Instituto Cervantes)
  • Joanna Allan (Northumbria University), speaking about culture in Western Sahara

The conference is also supported by The Auckland Project and the Spanish Embassy, and will be attended by the Education Counsellor from the Embassy, the Consul General in Edinburgh, the Directors of the Instituto Cervantes in London and Manchester/Leeds, and representatives of The Auckland Project.
