Discovering Dante at Durham Book Festival

14th October 2017, 17:30, Palace Green Learning Centre, Durham

Look around you and the influence of medieval poet Dante Alighieri is everywhere. For centuries his work has inspired artists and writers from Botticelli to Dan Brown.

A new exhibition at Palace Green Library will follow the story of Dante’s The Divine Comedy. Reflecting the entire human experience, Dante’s work considers the power of resilience through difficult times and ultimately offers a message of hope.

Durham University academics Professor Michael O’Neill and Dr Jason Harding will be joined by Professor Nicola Gardini of Keble College, Oxford, to discuss Dante’s enduring popularity and the influence of his work in culture today.

Chaired by Professor Annalisa Cipollone, Durham University

Hell, Heaven and Hope: A Journey through life and the afterlife with Dante, Palace Green Library, opens 18 November 2017
