Events in Modern Languages & Cultures
The 4th Durham Chinese Speech Competition
The competition has been held annually in the Chinese Language Area, School of Modern Languages and Cultures since the 2014. It aims to boost students’ enthusiasm in Chinese learning and to select outstanding foreign Chinese learners for the ‘Chinese Bridge’ competition – Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students, which is an international contest organised by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban).
Students from all learning stages are welcomed to participate, and participants are encouraged to demonstrate their knowledge of Chinese language and about Chinese culture and society. There will be first, second and third prizes to be awarded to winners of the competition. A participant has three minutes to present a prepared speech and the judges evaluate the presentation based on content, pronunciation, use of vocabulary and sentence patterns, as well as presentation skills.
