MLAC UG Conference 'Remembering Genocide, Violence and Trauma: The Memorialisation of Difficult Pasts'

5th March 2016, 10:00, Lindisfarne Centre, St Aidans College, Durham University

This conference is a collaboration between two final year modules in the French and German departments which explore similar themes of trauma and dealing with the past. The day will consist of a series of presentations by students in both module groups on potential memorial designs to commemorate a traumatic event in a Franco-German context. We will also have talks from our two guest speakers:

- Paul Leworthy (PhD candidate at the University of Edinburgh): ‘Style, silence and the unthinkable: an absence of logic or a poetics of dream in Charlotte Delbo's Aucun de nous ne reviendra’.

- Elise Bath (PhD candidate at the University of Newcastle): 'Issues in Representations of Atrocity - Empathy in the Museum Space'.

The day will run from 10am-4pm with coffee and cake provided. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there.

Harriet Matthews, Alice Whitehead, Jon Turner (conference steering committee)
