School of Modern Languages and Cultures: Italian Studies

Italian Film Week

Since June 2009, the Department of Italian has hosted a week of Italian cinema, in collaboration with the New Italian Cinema Events (NICE) in 2009 and 2010. The week offered showings of Italian films from emerging as well as more established film directors to a general, non-specialist audience as it intends to open a dialogue with current film culture in Italy and offers new Italian cinema to British audiences. Films include commedies, dramas, thrillers, and all genres in which directors decide to express their art.

All films are subtitled into English and, where possible, films are followed by discussions with directors, script writers, and editors. This event is part of the Department's effort to promote Italian culture in the North East of England.
