German Language 4

Academic year 2018-2019

This course develops the skills in written and spoken German practiced in German Language 2 (GERM2021). The module is based on a dossier of authentic German texts on a number of areas of topical concern in the German-speaking countries. These texts provide material for the two strands of the module: oral and writing. The written strand aims to develop writing skillsin a variety of styles and registers, currently:

  • English to German summary (Zusammenfassung)
  • Writing on graphical and statistical material
  • The newspaper 'Kommentar'
  • Academic writing

By the end of the course you should have increased your knowledge and understanding of a number of topical issues in the German-speaking countries. You should have consolidated and developed skills in oral and written argument and presentation in German, and increased your command of a number of relevant German vocabulary and registers.
