Durham Modern Languages Series

Durham Modern Languages Series is based in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at Durham University, one of the UK's most prestigious universities. From 2010 to 2014 DMLS titles were published by Manchester University Press. We published the results of important new work in cultural and linguistic studies by leading researchers from the UK and worldwide.

The range of our output reflects the research and teaching interests of the School: literature from the Middle Ages to the present, cultural and intellectual history, critical and cultural theory, film and other visual culture, theatre and performance, gender and sexuality, language and rhetoric, translation and interpreting, with reference to Arabic, French, German, Hispanic, Italian and Russian studies. We publish monographs, critical editions and collections of essays aimed primarily at academic researchers and students. Many of our books also have an appeal for non-specialist readers interested in foreign languages and cultures.

In addition to the new books published since the establishment of our partnership with Manchester University Press in 2010, a number of DMLS backlist titles have also been reprinted by MUP. See the full list in their online catalogue.
