Perspectives of Chinese Civil Code 2020

5th November 2020, 09:00 to 6th November 2020, 11:30

In May, 2020, China’s top legislature passed the long-expected Civil Code. Comprised of seven parts plus supplementary provisions, 84 chapters and 1,260 articles, the Civil Code is the most extensive legislation in the history of the People’s Republic of China.

The Civil Code will take effect on 1 January 2021.Nonetheless, outside of China, comparatively little is done to investigate the recent developments in China's civil and private law. This conference provides a timely and ample opportunity to explore this highly significant yet understudied topic from common law and civil law perspectives. Scholars from Renmin U, Peking U, Tsinghua, Oxford, Radboud, KCL, Fudan, City U HK, Manchester will present and comment.
