Thom Brooks joins Inner Temple as Durham’s first Academic Bencher

(1 November 2018)

Professor Thom Brooks has been named an Academic Bencher of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple. The position is honorary and for life. He joined the Inner Temple alongside other Benchers for an event mid-October hosted by Master Reader, Lord Hughes (Van Mildert). Brooks is Professor of Law and Government, and the Dean of Durham Law School. He is the first member of Durham law staff to become an Academic Bencher. Brooks says: “I am hugely honoured to join an incredible organisation like Inner Temple and enormously excited about supporting more of our able students joining the Bar. It’s especially inspiring to be part of an Inn with such close ties with our brilliant alumni going back to our founding over 50 years ago.”
