The Institute of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies (IMEIS) is delighted to be hosting a research workshop on the theme of The State of the Arab State, funded by the AHRC and co-hosted by Professor Oliver Schlumberger (Tübingen University) on the occasion of his Matariki Network-funded visit to Durham University. The workshop is one in an international series of events directed by Professor Schlumberger and aiming to stimulate broader reflection on democracy and authoritarian resilience in the region, as well as the significance and impact of the Arab Spring on political institutions.
