Death, Dying and Disposal Conference

9th September 2009, 09:00 to 12th September 2009, 17:00, Calman Learning Centre

The ninth international and interdisciplinary conference of Death Dying and Disposal will be hosted by the Centre for Death and Life Studies at Durham University, supported by the Institute of Advanced Study.

This conference takes place every other year and brings together a wide variety of scholars and professionals from many countries. It operates under the general supervision of the Editorial Board of the journal 'Mortality' (one of the Routledge, Taylor and Francis Group imprints), and in 2007 it met at the University of Bath.

Its characteristic feature is interdisciplinarity shaped both by academics from different disciplines and practitioners associated with this aspect of life and death. This means that the conference serves not only to develop and advance academic matters of intellectual importance but also serves as a medium for knowledge-transfer. And by this I do not only mean the usual path of transfer from the academic work to professional and applied contexts but also from professional aspects of the death-professional world into the scholarly domain. It is a conference that regularly attracts extensive media attention.
