IAS Fellows' Seminar - Animals and Medicine in Antiquity
Animals have been instrumental in thinking about Nature, divinity, and human behaviour. Their whole or fragmented bodies were an object of investigation and experiments, and a source of remedies. Ancient medical texts are essential in reconstructing the role of animals in ancient thought and everyday life. In this seminar, Dr Caroline Petit will explore the uses of animals in ancient pharmacology, focusing on currently untranslated sources.
Places are limited and so any academic colleagues or students interested in attending a seminar should register online in advance to reserve a place.
