Durham University's 'Big Ideas' Day

13th May 2008, 09:00 to 16:30, Wolfendale Lecture Theatre, Calman Learning Centre

The Vice-Chancellor has asked the University Research Committee to initiate a discussion on possible new major research initiatives ("Big Ideas") to take forward after RAE2008. Following detailed work by the Faculty Research Groups, Research Committee has drawn up a longlist of about ten promising Big Ideas, together with an even longer list of interesting ideas that may have the potential to develop into Big Ideas in the future.

Research Committee would like to open up the discussion to the wider Durham academic community, and so we are organising a "showcase" all-day event on Tuesday 13th May in the Calman Learning Centre, at which spokespersons for each of the leading Big Ideas will make a presentation, with time for questions and discussion. The event is being organised jointly by the IAS and REDSS.

The programme is available to download from the Big Ideas webpage (www.dur.ac.uk/ias/bigideas).

Lunch will be provided. In order to make catering arrangements please register your intention to attend by emailing Audrey Bowron (a.e.bowron@durham.ac.uk) by no later than Friday 9 May 2008.

It promises to be an interesting and stimulating event and we look forward to seeing you there.
